Early Christmas Gift to Me and Such a Deal at Good Will

For a mere $4.99 I entertained myself and my family tonite making omelets for dinner with the DEAL I found new at Good Will... *L*

Of course, as John said, I could have made more in a pan in less time...but this was more exciting!



Yes, yes, I know, I need to get a life if I think making omelets is exciting.. *lol*
But they WERE yummmmy!!

Sunday School Stars and Decking the Church Halls

At Sunday School, we are preparing for a special Feast of Lights in January for the Epiphany Party. The kids will be singing and signing 3 songs. Here's a peek at them in their star costumes as we practice during our Sunday School time.
They did a GREAT job for our first run through! *S*

And today, the 4th Sunday of Advent, is the day we traditionally decorate the Church for Christmas Services. The decorations stay up until the Sunday after Advent, this church year being Jan. 9th (2011).

This year is much different since we are still at our downtown storefront, temporary site, while the Church renovations are still progressing.










Love the "sea" of beautiful poinsettias!!








The space is no where near as glamourous or big as our regular worship site, but thanks to the donations of things from many people, we did decorate the temporary church site pretty nicely. Thanks to everyone who donated items, made things, and stayed to help decorate! It's looking GREAT!

Tree Collection and Mantel Gallery

My assemblages are taking over my available spaces here... and not wanting to pack them away, (because then I have to unpack them again), I just added my Christmas tree collection on the mantel with the rest of the stuff. I like the look of the old vintage type trees, reminds me of my Grandma who had a lot of these around her house when I was a kid.

Old English Advent Tea Party

Haven't had much time for art things... busy season for bookkeeping, at Church, and with family, getting ready for Christmas and things.

About the most artistic assemblage I can say I've done are some tea sandwiches for the Old English Advent Tea at our Church that was held today. These are salmon on dill spiced cream cheese on cocktail rye bread with a sprig of dill and slice of carrot for garnish. They tasted pretty yummy..good thing, since we happened to have a bit of a snow storm that kept half of the anticipated tea party guests away, so we had a lot of leftovers to take home to eat - I had made over 90 of these!




There wasn't that much snow, but it was icy and blowing alot causing white outs on some highways.



About 10 of us also decorated a table for the Advent Tea ... this was one I did, complete with decorated slipcovers for the chairs.



I used some things that were John's aunts and some things that I had found at where else... Good Will. *L*






And John was even coaxed to help out as one of the gentlemen tea and appetizer servers for the ladies who were in attendance. My Dad was also a server along with Fr. Bill, and church member, Bob too.



Soooo, that's about as artsy as I've been lately.

Can't wait to get past this busy season and get back to some assemblage art!

The River (of Life) Art Show

What a great weekend! The River Art Show was well attended even though many probably stayed home after the snow storm earlier that day.. but even so, it was a good turnout for both Saturday night and Sunday morning.

I am very thankful that I was asked to be a part of it...it was a lot of fun, and there were many great artists who showed at it as well. They were all such nice people, (both the other artists, the hosts (The River), and those who came to view the art), I hope to get together with the artists again sometime... some plans sound like they are in the works for a type of Walworth County Art Consortium, or something like that... so it's an exciting time to think of what is to come.

Art Show Set Up

Tonite I set up for tomorrow's art show... The 3rd Annual River of Life Art Show, featuring over 18 area artists. It's being held at The River, (formerly the Delavan Theatre) on Sat. from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

I am so excited!!!!!!! It's my first time exhibiting with so many artists, and it's an honor to be able to be a part of it.

Kasey came and helped me haul in a whole van load of assemblages, props, tablecloths, pedestals and other stuff, and she stayed to help me set up too! I'm SOOO thankful for her help, otherwise it would have taken me 3 hours instead of an hour and a half!




Here are some photos of my section of the art show ...they have been so gracious in offering me several different areas in a kind of half circle area, with tables and wall dividers too.

ECVA Call for Entries: Word & Example

Calling all artists!! The Episcopal Church & Visual Arts has issued a new call for entries, check it out below, or go to their website for more info and to see the latest exhibit too.

"WORD & EXAMPLE"



Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?

"Proclaim the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words."
(attributed to St. Francis of Assisi).

Authentic living of the Christian life demands that our words match our example. Human reality, on the other hand, demonstrates how much of a challenge this Baptismal invitation is for all of us. No wonder we forever need to respond, “I will with God’s help!”

So the invitation to proclaim the Good News of God in Christ goes out.

Who needs this proclamation? The poor need to hear the good news—"Word" telling them that the reign of God is theirs—that they will be fed, cared for, and loved. What examples/actions show the poor that the reign of God is theirs?

The depressed, the downtrodden, the illegal alien, the oppressed, and the imprisoned need to hear the Word that proclaims that God wants them to be free. They need examples of compassion, forgiveness, aid, visits, and hospitality—examples/actions that show compassion and freedom?

The blind, the hurt, the wounded, the broken, the addicted and the alienated need to know that the year of the Lord’s favor exists for them. They need examples of compassionate presence, encouraging love, and unfailing kindness—examples/actions that lead to hope and new life.

We all need to receive this "Word," this proclamation of Good News, because we are all works of art in progress. These words from our Baptismal Covenant invite us to live, to speak, to dance, to forgive, to laugh, to cry, to heal, to love, to struggle, to share, to have faith, to die, to rise, to proclaim... to live with meaning.

The Baptismal Covenant invites us to be like Jesus—in truth, to live like Jesus—by our Word and Example.

And so we invite you as artists to explore and express the beauty, the challenge, the love, the complexity, the joy, the obstacles, the faith, the hope, and the ongoing call—with God’s help—to proclaim by Word and Example the Good News of God in Christ.

Proclaim these words using whatever is necessary.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS FEBRUARY 13, 2011

Artists who are members of The Artists Registry @ ECVA may submit up to three images to be considered for this exhibition.
Becoming a member of The Artist Registry, which is open to ALL, is FREE, although you could also be a supporting or sponsoring member if you wish to.
