Prison Break

"...if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:36)

"For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be imprisoned as slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." (Romans 6:6-11)

I did this assemblage called "Prison Break" tonight. I had gone down to search in my basement of treasures and junk for some ideas for another assemblage and came across these things that just seemed to fit together. Praying hands upon broken mirror pieces (our broken self), enclosed in a "jail or prison", a stone cross sitting in a burlap bag, a bird sits on the cross and some wire, beaded "vines" encircle the cross. To me, these passages and the title just seemed to fit.. since we all are imprisoned in some way or other, even if we aren't actually IN a jail cell, we still let our lusts, greed, apathy, etc. imprison us ...without God to set us free we aren't truly free at all.
